The FTTH Council Europe also announced today that Deutsche Glasfaser received this year’s FTTH Operator Award, while Luis Alveirinho received the Individual Award, for their outstanding efforts to accelerate the adoption of FTTH in Europe.
Commenting on the FTTH Operator Award, Nadia Babaali, Communications Director of the FTTH Council Europe, said:
"Deutsche Glasfaser is a relatively new player in the fibre industry. It started building FTTH networks about 6 years and have since then followed an amibitious growth path for fibre rollout in Germany, based on open access networks infrastructure. By 2014, they had over a 100,000 households in Germany already connected to fibre . For 2018, the target has been set at 400,000. This makes them one of the leading FTTH operators in Germany. The FTTH Council Europe is glad to give the FTTH Award to Deutsche Glasfaser, who made such an effort to fosterr FTTH rollout in Germany!"
Nadia Babaali added: "Luis Alveirinho has overseen the connection of millions of new homes to FTTH and continues to drive Portugal Telecoms fibre plan for 2020. Having devoted the last 20 years of his carreer to fibre and personally overseeing deployment to more than 2 million homes over the world, he is one of the most experienced implementer of fibre in Europe and a true champion of fibre!"
