Salvatore Lombardo is an electronics engineer with over thirty years of experience in planning and designing broadband networks in Italy and abroad. He earned a Master in Business Administration (MBA) from Luiss University in Rome in 2013. He participated in the launch of four telecommunications startups in Italy, France, and Spain, where he was responsible for the design and construction of the fiber optic access and FWA network and the fiber optic transport network. Since 2004, he has been with Infratel Italia, a public company controlled by the Ministry of Economic Development, active in the development of network infrastructure in so-called market failure areas, connecting over 3,000 municipalities with optical backhauling backbones spanning over 15,000 km. In 2010, he first took on the role of General Manager of Infratel Italia and subsequently the role of CEO of the same company until October 2016, directly participating in the drafting of the National Ultra-Broadband Plan (BUL plan) with the Presidency of the Council of Ministers for the development of the FTTH network in white areas. Since 2012, he has initiated the development of broadband access networks in white and gray areas with direct interventions, concessions, and so-called grants for over €6 billion in public investments.
