Organised by the FTTH Council Europe
Copper Switch Off - Prerequisites & Data

    25 March 2025 09:30-11:00 Workshop Room 1 Session

The workshop focuses on critical parameters and stakeholder responsibilities required for a successful transition to fibre networks. Key topics include defining adequate Copper Switch-Off areas, evaluating FTTH coverage metrics such as homes passed versus homes connected, and ensuring alignment across various address databases. It also addresses the integration of complementary infrastructures, the role of regulatory and administrative entities in maintaining address data accuracy, and the identification and assessment of active fibre network operators within the Copper Switch-Off area. These considerations are vital for achieving seamless network upgrades and fostering sustainable broadband ecosystems.

Tools and Techniques to Secure the Quality of Your Fiber Network

    25 March 2025 09:30-11:00 Workshop Room 5 Session

A fiber network is a long-term investment, but failing to address challenges like duct system integrity and optical infrastructure quality can jeopardize its value. These challenges, if ignored, can lead to costly repairs, reduced performance, and network downtime. New tools and techniques now empower operators to overcome these issues, securing their networks while optimizing costs, speed, and performance.

Join this workshop to hear insights from CityFibre, Hexatronic/KNET, Plumettaz, and EXFO—leaders in fiber optic operations, passive solutions, cable installation equipment, and optical measurement instruments (respectively).

    Key takeaways:

    1. Discover how CityFibre secures the quality of its fiber network in the UK.
    2. Learn innovative strategies for ensuring duct infrastructure integrity with passive solutions.
    3. Explore cost-efficient, safe, and fast blown cable installation techniques.
    4. Learn how an end-to-end network lifecycle test strategy combining centralized and field testing leads to faster deployments, higher quality, and greater operational efficiency.

Going Underground: challenges and solutions for the existing fibre network

    25 March 2025 09:30-11:00 Workshop Room 6 Session

As more markets reach FTTH maturity, there are still many reasons to install additional fibre on existing routes, including:

    • Increased bandwidth demands from FTTH
    • Redundancy
    • Upgrade old cables
    • Sell spare capacity

But anyone who’s ever tried to install new cable in an existing underground pathway knows it’s much easier said than done.

This workshop will take a deep dive into the drivers behind these upgrades, the intricate challenges involved, and the practical solutions that make the very most of that precious commodity – duct space.

Our panel of thought leaders includes:

Open Eir: on the challenges of upgrading Ireland’s diverse national network

Dura-Line: on innovative deployment models like multi-use networks and dig-once

Corning: on fiber and cable solutions that push the limit on density

Plumettaz: on overriding new MicroDucts into an already occupied conduit

CETIN: on how they successfully unlocked valuable new space in their underground network in Czechia without diggi.
